Mining Policy:

1. Mine Resources Management
The Ministry of Mine and Energy seeks to improve the mining institutional effectiveness, in order to be perceived as a stronger and more responsible institution.

2. Improvement in the productivity and competitiveness of the Mining Sector
—Small local scale Mining—.
The Ministry of Mine and Energy, aims for a more profitable, organize and safe mining development. It is working for the harmony and balance of the mining development with nearby communities to the operation area, including ethnic groups. Also, working hand by hand with the environmental authorities inspires the mining development to prevent and minimize the environmental impact.

3. Advertisement of the Mining Country
The Ministry of Mine and Energy, searches to strengthen the bonds of trust with companies, investors and the international and national banks, to facilitate the dialogue with experts on international mining knowledge and create new opportunities for the development of the mining industry in Colombia.

The Mining policy:
An integral strategy with effective results.

Colombia is in a process of transition and development. The idea of Colombia as a country risk has failed considerably. The positive perception in aspects such as security has opened the doors to new actors to invest domestically and externally, especially in the Mining sector.

All the productive areas of the country must improve their strategies to become competitive, fortify their structures and facilitates empowerment as institutions, offering a better service to the employees, citizens, students and employers.

A key part of the strategy is focused on education and the creation of communication networks. Such actions allow all actors involved to keep up to date with the policies, programs and events that are developed within the Ministry of Mines, towards their target: miners, delegates and civil servants of the Ministry; investors, community and international cooperation - embassies, commissions of economic exchange, among others inwards (miners, delegates and civil servants of the Ministry), as towards outside (investors, community and international cooperation (embassies, economic exchange commission's etc.).

Through Colombia Minera, you will be informed every fifteen days, of the latest advances that are being developed to increase the investment, to improve the perception of the mining sector and mainly to transmit a responsible development approach to all the actors involved in this productive activity.

In each publication the three pillars of the mining policy will be included:

Mine Resources Management
Improvement in the productivity and competitiveness
  of the Mining Sector
Advertisement of the Mining Country

In every three publications, related issues will be discussed, for the knowledge and public use, for instance, financial aspects, mining control and legalization, Mining Districts and the importance of the social impact of the mining sector.

We hope that this new communication and information proposal, will prove useful to gain a better and a more efficient mining investment with a responsible development approach, which will benefit towards a more positive perception of the Colombia industry.

“One of the sectors in Colombia that attracts more foreign investment is the mining sector”

Hernán Martínez Torres
Minister of Energy and Mines
